What is a repaint?

The term “repaints” refers to dolls that have had their original factory-issued face paint removed with a solvent like nail polish remover and then had a new face painted on it by a doll artist. I use professional, artist-quality paints, sealers, and supplies to create one-of-a-kind faces on vinyl and resin fashion dolls. I specialize in celebrity portrait dolls, but I also love to create unique faces from my imagination.

To further customize a repaint, artists can add new hair colors by rooting saran hair from doll suppliers into the head, curling the hair by rolling it on rollers made from straws and adding hot steam or water, and adding freckles, tattoos, or piercings if desired. Sometimes, dolls have all their hair removed or clipped short so that they can wear wigs instead or they have mohair glued on in place of the rooted saran. Male dolls often have had their faces re-sculpted using a Dremel tool.

Doll artists are always innovating this art form with new techniques and ideas that echo the trends of fashion.
